OCTOBER NEWSLETTER
News (exciting might-warrant-a-rosette sort of news), recipe round up and better ways to use pumpkins than carving them.
Hello you lovely lot.
Welcome to my monthly newsletter. This month I’ve got exciting news that makes me feel very grown up; a few upcoming events, a recipe round up, and - critically - better ways to use pumpkins that carving them.
This newsletter is free. If you’d like to consider upgrading to a paid subscription, it costs less than a fancy pumpkin per month and you’ll also receive a monthly video (like this), a weekly recipe (like this) and plenty more (see here). Whichever subscription you pick, I’m just grateful you’re here. Otherwise it’d just be me and the pumpkins (who are friendly and all, just not in the same way as you lot). So, thank you.
As ever, do let me know how you get on with the recipes and shout anytime with your questions or comments.
TECHNICAL NOTE: This post is packed so may appear as clipped or truncated in an email. If so, just press VIEW ENTIRE MESSAGE at the end of the email, or head to the app or online version.
Right, to the pumpkins…
Fortnum & Mason Partnership
Bit giddy about this one, and feeling super grown up. I am now F&M’s Veg Expert and very much hoping I get a badge (or maybe a rosette? Sash?). Over the next year, I’ll be celebrating vegetables in all their glory by showcasing a variety of in-season veg, sharing delicious recipes, growing tips and ways to make the most of the harvest.
First up, find out what my favourite Fortnum ingredients are, then read my tips for making veg the star of the show:
Events
Big sweaty hugs and sloppy kisses to the excellent folk who came to my supper club at Peterley Manor Farm featuring recipes from my cookbook, From the Veg Patch, made with produce from Peterley. It was such special night and I’m really grateful to all the guests for creating such a jolly, convivial atmosphere. More where that came from in the Spring. Watch this space…
21st and 22nd October, Dartmouth Food Festival - on the Saturday at 2:30pm I’ll be chatting about my cookbook and sharing a few tasters. Tickets here. Then on Sunday at 12:30pm I’ll be on the panel as Wicked Leeks host Food Matter Live: Seasonal Eating at Home and Away which is free - more info here. Book signing too, obvs.
Recipes Round Up
Here’s a recap of my latest weekly recipes in case you missed them. For a snazzy recipe PDF and to see the Extra Helping content, do take a look at paid subscription options.
Recipes for a Pumpkins
I always feel sorry for pumpkins at this time of year. So can I make a plea: eat them! Even if you must insist on carving them, keep the flesh and please, eat it. How would you feel if you’d wished your whole life to be loving roasted and fanned with sage, but ended up butchered by a cack-handed toddler and left to rot on a doorstep? Here are some much better ways to celebrate this delicious veg:
Pumpkin and sage cake with thyme and feta frosting - from my cookbook.
Pumpkin tikka masala with flatbreads - also from my cookbook.
Pumpkin gnocchi with herb butter - a recipe I wrote for Go Organic.
Finally, yes I know it says carrot but it works just as well, perhaps even better, with squash:
